Side-loading lifts on full-size coaches bring their own challenges. The platform sits high, the entrance is narrow, and the securing points are often unfamiliar to drivers who usually work on low-floor buses. Consequently, this is where most mistakes happen.
Our training covers the whole sequence: positioning the vehicle safely, deploying and checking the side lift, communicating with the passenger, loading and manoeuvring into the wheelchair bay, then correctly applying the four-point tiedown and the occupant restraint. Furthermore, we cover manual override, emergency evacuation and what to do when equipment fails in service.
Every session is practical and hands-on, delivered on your own vehicles and equipment. Drivers learn their PSVAR duties in plain English, correct use of wheelchair anchor points and WTORS, safe operation of lifts and ramps, disability awareness and passenger assistance, plus the daily checks that keep equipment compliant under LOLER and PUWER.
Accessible Ltd is the only truly independent training provider in the UK covering all wheelchair equipment manufacturers. We hold approvals from BraunAbility, Koller Engineering, NMI Safety Systems, Q’Straint, AMF-Bruns, PLS Passenger Lift Services and Ratcliff Palfinger. Therefore, whatever is fitted to your fleet, we can train your team to use it correctly.
