Backhouse Jones (specialists in legal matters for the transport law sector) have stated the following about Driver CPC following the UK’s vote to leave the EU

“Driver CPC obligations are also unlikely to change, this is because, although the regulations were created by the EU, the UK is a signatory of the, snappily titled, European Agreement Concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport (AETR) which contains driver CPC obligations. The UK is expected to remain a signatory of AETR as a condition of ongoing trade with the EU. This will be in line with a number of other non EU countries.”
Therefore even after we formally leave the EU in 2-2 ½ years time Driver CPC seems highly unlikely to be “scrapped” given we still wish to trade with EU countries.

Driver CPC will not change in any way,  until at least 2018 (months from the next 5 year cycle) so our advice is business as usual as far as Driver CPC is concerned.

Accessible Ltd view of  Brexit on Driver CPC is that the directive also falls within the realms of current UK Health and safety legislation, which means it is not suddenly going to become deregulated and disappear, and also the infrastructure for this directive is now in place and working, bringing in an ongoing income stream to the Government, from the constant renewal of driver’s annual CPC training, and we feel they are unlikely to forgo this stream of money .

There is no doubt, the road ahead will be littered with hilly terrain over the next couple of years, and only time will tell, but for now the message is to continue as far as DCPC goes, as there are no changes yet.
